Keynote Speaker: Congressman Frank Lucas

Congressman Frank Lucas is a fifth generation Oklahoman whose family has lived and farmed in Oklahoma for over 100 years. Born on January 6, 1960 in Cheyenne, Okla., Lucas graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1982 with a degree in Agricultural Economics. He was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in a special election in 1994. Lucas represents Oklahoma’s Third Congressional District, which includes all or portions of 32 counties in northern and western Oklahoma, stretching from the Oklahoma panhandle to parts of Tulsa, and from Yukon to Altus in the southwest. It takes up almost half the state’s land mass and is one of the largest agricultural regions in the nation. Lucas has been a crusader for the American farmer since being elected to Congress in 1994 and he has fought to protect Oklahoma values. Congressman Lucas serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and as Ranking Member on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Lucas also serves as a member of the Republican Whip Team. Frank and his wife Lynda have three children and three grandchildren.

Keynote Speaker: “The Oklahoma Kid” Marty Tipton

Marty Tipton also known as the Oklahoma Kid is a Trick Roper & Cowboy Humorist. He is also a fourth generation lasso spinning artist. Tipton has perfected his cowboy lasso spinning performance after 30+ years performing publicly every since the age of 9 years old. Another historical fact is that Marty Tipton has relative ties to the legendary Will Rogers by way of his Grandmother McSpadden, so its no wonder why trick roping and humor in his blood. Tipton toured from New York to L.A. during his younger years performing in televised appearances across the nation including ABC Good Morning America and the Travel Chanel Touring America.

Cattle Market Outlook: Dr. Derrell Peel, OSU Extension Econimist
*Qualifies for Veterinarian Continuing Ed Hours

Derrell Peel has served as the Extension Livestock Marketing Specialist since he came to Oklahoma State University in 1989. He has B.S. and M.S. degrees from Montana State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He previously served as the Superintendent of the Southeastern Colorado Range Research Station in Springfield Colorado. His main program areas at Oklahoma State University include livestock market outlook and marketing/risk management education for livestock producers. Derrell also works in the area of international livestock and meat trade with particular focus on Mexico and Canada and the North American livestock and meat industry. He lived in Mexico on sabbatical in 2001 and has developed an extensive knowledge of the Mexican cattle and beef industry and the economics of cattle and beef trade between the U.S. and Mexico.

Fake Meat: Danielle Beck, NCBA Senior Director of Government Affairs

Danielle Beck joined the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in June of 2016. As Senior Director of Government Affairs, she is the lead lobbyist on all issues pertaining to tax, credit, appropriations, nutrition, food safety, research, biotechnology and alternative proteins. Prior to joining NCBA, Danielle represented clients across the food and agriculture sector as a lobbyist for The Russell Group. Before that, she spent five years on Capitol Hill working for Congressman Tom Rooney (R-FL), where she managed his work on the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee and House Agriculture Livestock Subcommittee Chairmanship.

Animal Behavior: Dr. Janeen Johnson

Dr. Janeen Salak-Johnson is an associate professor and Temple Grandin Professorship in animal behavior and well-being in the Oklahoma State University Department of Animal and Food Sciences. She joined the department in January 2018, after 18 years on the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in animal science from Texas Tech University. Dr. Salak-Johnson has an extremely active research program in stress and environmental physiology and animal well-being that integrates the interdisciplinary fields of stress, immunophysiology, behavior, neuroendocrinology, nutrition, and welfare. More recently, she has intertwined the areas of gut-immune interactions, microbiome, and maternal-fetal interactions based on research outcomes on her already well-established research program. She has authored or co-authored over 150 refereed publications, proceedings, and abstracts and given over 80 presentations in areas of stress physiology and animal well-being and animal behavior and care. She has played a significant role in developing the on-farm animal welfare audits for the swine industry, serves as an animal-welfare expert for stakeholders, and provides consultation on animal welfare to both academia and the industry. She also serves as section editor for Journal of Animal Science as well as provides service to professional societies or associations.

CattleMax Datebase/Record Keeping: Terrell Miller, Founder of Cattlesoft Inc.

Terrell Miller is a founder of Cattlesoft Inc, a College Station Texas-based company that develops the CattleMax beef cattle management software and operates e-commerce stores specializing in livestock supplies. Today the company’s products are used by farmers and ranchers in over 70 countries worldwide.

OCA General Business Meeting
Keynote Speaker: Jennifer Houston, NCBA President

Jennifer Houston is the 2019 NCBA President. Jennifer and her husband, Mark, own and operate East Tennessee Livestock Center in Sweetwater, Tenn. Jennifer has been active in the beef industry for over 30 years and served at numerous capacities on the state level. Her national involvement began as she represented Tennessee on the Beef Industry Council of the National Live Stock and Meat Board. She has been an NCBA board member since 1996, chairing the Foodservice, Advertising and New Product and Culinary initiative committees during this time. Most recently, Jennifer served as Chairman of the NCBA Policy Division. She has also served as the Chairman of the Federation of State Beef Councils where she also served as a member of the Beef Promotion Operating Committee and the Meat Export Federation executive committee. She served as Region II Vice-President and was a member of the NCBA executive committee from 1997 to 1999. Jennifer and Mark have a two grown children, Virginia and Ross. Jennifer grew up on a Hereford farm in West Tennessee and graduated in animal science from the University of Tennessee.

Chuck Coffey, Cattlemen's Beef Board

Chuck Coffey is a fifth-generation rancher who grew up on a ranch in the hill country of Harper, Texas. He proudly earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in range science from Texas A&M University and now has three children, all of whom attend Oklahoma State University. Chuck taught agriculture at Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, after completing his master’s degree in 1985 - eventually chairing the department there until he joined the Noble Foundation as a pasture and range consultant in 1993. He is extremely passionate about ranching and feels blessed to be able to work on the ranch every day, especially after a serious horseback-riding accident that threatened to leave him paralyzed before several surgeries and months of rehabilitation. With a wealth of activities on and off of the ranch at any given time, Chuck says he has learned that “staying busy keeps you young.”

Emcee: Lt. Governor, Matt Pinnell

Matt Pinnell was elected as the 17th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Oklahoma on November 6th, 2018. Lt. Governor Pinnell serves as Secretary of Tourism and Branding on Governor Kevin Stitt’s cabinet. Pinnell also runs a small business with his wife, Lisa, an entrepreneur and inventor. Pinnell also currently serves on the Department of Commerce executive committee, leading the department’s efforts to maximize Oklahoma’s Opportunity Zones and focusing on small business growth. Pinnell served as a member of Governor Kevin Stitt’s transition team with a focus on economic development and tourism as Chairman of the economic growth committee. Prior to his election as Lieutenant Governor, Pinnell served as Director of State Parties for the Republican National Committee from 2013 to 2017. Matt is a graduate of Oral Roberts University with a degree in Advertising and lives in Tulsa with his wife, Lisa, and their 4 children who attend Jenks Public Schools.
